Hip Hop Yoga

Welcome to your local Hip Hop Yoga community, located just off Lygon Street.

Hip Hop Yoga is an intimate, light-filled studio that runs classes for all levels, from beginner to the more advanced and everything in-between.

“We originally started Hip Hop Yoga through a series of weekend pop up classes at various shared spaces around Brunswick. Our ethos is to combine the meditative qualities of the physical practice of yoga and music. The focus is to align breath and movement and to allow the body and mind to let go and release to the music through a moving meditation. We are so proud of our diverse community, all ages, all levels are welcome. It’s a huge privilege for us to be able to introduce Hip Hop Yoga to so many people already.”

“As our community began to grow, we decided to move into our new home on Church Street in 2018. The entrance is non-descript, so if you blink, you might miss it. Once inside the studio entrance combines the sign-up desk with a chill-out zone – “the pink couch”, surrounded by plants and often sun-drenched on a sunny afternoon. Our Yo-G’s can chill out here either before or after class for chats and tea. The main studio space was an old warehouse that has been refurbished to a beautiful light-filled space.”

“We now have a team of 8 teachers running a full schedule of Hip Hop Flo, Slow Jamz, Yin, Barre, and Pilates as well as our Hip Hop Yoga Online studio. We are so thankful for the community that has continued to support us during the past few months of Covid closures and lockdowns.” – Victoria, Studio Owner

The Moving Room

The studio opened in 2014 in a tiny shop front and very quickly upsized to its current location: 55 Edward St. It very much reflects the neighbourhood in that everything in the room was found or sourced from Brunswick. The building has been many things prior to being a Yoga Shala, such as a house share for uni students, power tool showroom, and junk shop, which definitely gives it some charm and character!

The Room is intimate and friendly with a beautiful and diverse community of locals. The Room’s ethos is discovering ‘the joy of moving your body”. Find strength, feel energised, and live inspired. There are classes for all levels and #jointhemovers is something they have been using for a while to inspire and invite all bodies, all ages, all sizes to move in The Room. After all, everyone feels better when they move!

The room is a place to deepen your practice, learn how to go upside down (if that’s what excites you), and receive 1-1 assistance from experienced teachers.
