Wholefoods East Brunswick Village

Previously known as Organic Wholefoods, Wholefoods is a family-owned business with a glowing reputation for having a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

The success of the store has bloomed over the years, allowing them to open 3 new stores in popular locations across Melbourne. One of which can be found right here, in the centre of East Brunswick Village. Their corresponding stores are located in Brunswick, Fitzroy and Flemington.

The store at East Brunswick Village features 5 isles of floor to ceiling shelves stocked to the brim with everything you could possibly need, featuring only organic, natural products. Our favourite aspect of the store would have to be the abundance of everyday bulk food essentials to choose from – giving you even more reasons to reduce your plastic waste.

If you’re excited about getting your hands on premium, organic produce and don’t have time to visit the store then you’ll be pleased to know that you can buy all of your produce from their online store because who doesn’t need more reasons to shop!

Ceres Sustainable Centre

CERES Community Environment Park

In 1982, a small group of people in the local area approached the then-Brunswick (now Moreland) Council about making use of the land to grow vegetables and make compost as part of a “work-for-the-dole” program. Explorations in alternative technology quickly followed, and shortly afterwards, invitations for school kids to learn about these emerging programs in green technology, recycling and organic farming. Along with the Merri Creek Management Committee and Friends of Merri Creek, CERES and volunteers planted hundreds of trees and shrubs and lobbied governments to clean up the creek. In 1994, after 12 years of remediation work, Sacred Kingfishers returned to nest along the banks of the creek, having been absent for many years.

Today, CERES is an award-winning, not-for-profit sustainability centre, social enterprise hub, and urban farm, working to support Victorian farmers, grocery makers, and suppliers.

All of the profits generated through CERES are used to design and deliver programs that teach kids and adults the importance of our planet and how to best look after it.

CERES offers boxes of organic, seasonal, fresh produce at affordable prices you can feel good about. Delivery is also available through CERES Fair Food. Some of the organic produce available to buy at the CERES Organic Grocery, and featuring on the menu of the Merri Cafe, has been grown at the park, at CERES Honey Lane Market Garden, and at CERES Joe’s Market Garden in Coburg – just two kilometres up the Merri Creek. Eggs from Honey Lane’s 200 free-range chooks are also available for purchase from the Grocery.

CERES is a living, breathing example of how a local food economy can make an entire community healthier and more resilient.
