We stopped by to say hi to our new neighbour, Jo at the East Brunswick Hotel.

Jo is the General Manager, at East Brunswick Hotel which has just undergone a renovation and relaunch.

What makes working here so special?

I’m the General Manager, and my father in-law owns the venue so we are very family orientated having family involved as much as possible. My sister in-law does the social media, another is a florist and another has an accomadation background. So everyone including my husband has been involved in the renovation and the relaunch.

I think Brunswick is really cool. I didn’t know much about it when I came here as I am originally from Queensland.

I really like it here, people are down to earth and that’s what we wanted for this venue, accepting to everyone. We don’t want the place to be pretentious at all, we don’t like that, we want everyone to feel welcome.

There are 12 boutique hotel rooms upstairs, they’re quirky and cool. The feedback we have had from them is amazing, people love them. We get a lot of interstate travellers, they come to Melbourne for work. Having a restaurant bar downstairs makes it super convenient, they can have a drink, get some food and go to bed. It’s also really close to the city and easy transport to the city with the tram stop out front.

We are big about culture, with the staff and everyone we have employed we believe in ensuring everyone feels welcome 100% of the time. We do have a lot of TVs in here and while we have had lots of opinion on this, the truth is we put them there as a bit of a distraction, and of course, Melbourne is a sporting city so it’s perfect for big sporting events. We show all the big events here on the TV, football finals, big fights all those things. We also have the upstairs area, it’s a function space but a bar on the weekend, so people that aren’t into sport can head up there.

We have live music Thursday – Sunday, we found a few artists and then we have had other artists come to us and ask to play. We want to give everyone the opportunity and mix it up with different artists.

Foodwise our chef came from The Grand in Richmond. We’ve still got your pub classic like a parma but we offer a level up from what you are used to, the feedback we’ve been getting on the food is great.

If you’re in the neighbourhood make sure you drop by to say hi, have a bite to eat and listen to some great live music.

Located less than 5km from Melbourne’s CBD why not stay the night, perfect place for singles, couples, business travellers and people who just want to kick it. They also have a beautiful function room originally a  beer-cellar it has been converted into a private dining room for up to 24 guests for a sit-down function, or 40 guests for a cocktail event.
