Must have items for your apartment


If you’re buying your first off the plan apartment in Melbourne here’s a list of things you should check off. You can thank us later on this one. I wish I had this before I moved into my first place, so obvious yet so needed.

Entrance

Welcome mat (indoor and outdoor)
Lamp if there’s no light source when you enter
Hook for jackets, keys
Shoe rack – if you have dirty work boots this is a good idea.

Living Room

Couch, chairs, or other things to sit on
Coffee table
Bookshelves
Television
Stand for TV
Throw pillows for couch/chairs
Artwork
Lamp(s)
Rug for under the coffee table if your place is not carpeted

Kitchen

Food!
Silverware
Silverware organizer (drawer insert)
Dishes (e.g. plates, glasses, mugs, bowls, serving platters, etc.)
Trash and recycling bin
Pots and pans
Oven mitts
Spatulas, ladles, whisks, etc.
Dishtowels
Dish drying rack
Measuring cups and spoons
Mixing bowls
Bottle opener and corkscrew
Plastic containers for food storage (e.g. Tupperware or Gladware)
Rolls of aluminium foil, wax paper, plastic wrap, and parchment paper
Zip-top plastic bags of various sizes
Cutting boards
Toaster or toaster oven
Microwave
Kettle or hotpot
Ice cube trays
Blender
Can opener
Good, sharp knives (at least one large chef’s knife and a small paring knife)
Colander
Dish soap and sponges/scrubbers
Tablecloth or placemats
Napkins

Dining area

Candles/tealights and candle holders

Bathroom

Toothbrush
Toiletries (e.g. bath soap, hand soap, shampoo, lotion, etc.)

Hangers (more than you think you need)

Now we all know there is plenty more your off the plan apartment needs and to be honest, most you just acquire over time, but if you have the above when you start you are in the right position to start off your first few weeks on the right foot.
