Kayla Shows Us The Real Lygon Lifestyle
We spoke to another lovely person while we were at Brunswick’s favourite coffee roaster – Padre Coffee. Her name is Layla Blackmore and truly lives and breathes the Lygon lifestyle.
Please introduce yourself.
I am Kayla, and I am retail and marketing manager. Been here for just over two years. I also live on Lygon street so I walk to work. There’s about five of us that work at Padre that live on Lygon street so it’s really great to work in the area and of course we dine in the area, shop and yea it’s a great vibe.
We started roasting in 2008 and we celebrate our 10-year anniversary in August of this year. And it’s grown from a very small café to a double shop front and now to the warehouse here. It’s grown with the community which is really cool.
Do you have some favourite local spots?
We love Tim at the East Brunswick Wine Store. He was a sommelier at Vue De Monde and opened up his own wine store. We also like Mr Wilkinson.
A favourite of many, the East Brunswick Wine Store is your go-to spot for anything red or white. Image credit: The City Lane.
You’ve lived quite a while in the area?
Yea so I’ve jumped from Brunswick East to Reservoir and back to Brunswick East again. It’s a good area, a good space and there’s so much going on. There’s just too much to do.
How do you have your coffee?
Filter coffee. Its clean, its bright and you can really get a sense of the origins and things from the coffees. Certain areas, certain countries will have different flavour profiles and you can start to pick the origins of the coffee.
What would you like to see more of in Brunswick?
I am a big fan of farmer markets. So, I’d love to see more local produce I think. We have a few organic shops but I’d love to see more.
If you consider yourself a coffee connoisseur then visit Kayla and the whole team at Padre’s.
